Brockport UPK 2026-2027
An information/interested survey for the 2026-2027 UPK program will be mailed to students/parents in the Brockport Central student database on November 14, 2025. Our goal is to include all families within the District. We are asking families to complete the Household Information Form, if you have not already done so, by October 31, 2025. This will enable the Office of Registration to enter family data into the student management system and ensure all families receive all mailings pertaining to the 2026-2027 UPK program. UPK Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are the criteria for a child to be eligible to attend the UPK program?
Your family must reside within the Brockport Central School District. Your child must be 4 yrs old prior to December 1st.
Q: What health forms are required?
Copies of the most recent physical examination and immunization records must be submitted. It is not necessary to make a new doctor's appointment if copies of the above records have been provided.
Q: Can my student attend UPK at an outside agency?
There are a limited number of openings provided for outside agencies that qualify under the NYS Grant. The location information will be listed on the Preference Letter that will be included with the registration packet mailed in December.
Q: How long will children be in school each day/week?
The UPK program is required to be five days a week. Our half day program is 2 ½ hours per day) and full day program which is 5 ½ hours per day.
The Ginther School's UPK program times are:
-
UPK Full Day: 8:30 am – 2:15 pm
Q: Will transportation be provided?
No, transportation is not covered by the grant. BCSD researched the possibility of transporting students; however this is not an option at this time.
Q: What will be the focus of the curriculum and will there be specials like in Kindergarten?
The focus of the curriculum will be literacy based on the NYS Pre-School Standards but there will be math, science and social studies lessons. Physical education, art, and music experiences are provided within the UPK classroom.
Each of the outside UPK locations will also teach UPK for 2 1/2 hours per day, however, they will determine their own schedule.
Q: Is there any cost to families for UPK?
There are no direct costs to families for the UPK academic program at either Ginther School or the outside agencies. Families are required to provide transportation to and from UPK. School supplies, breakfast, lunch, and snack are provided to students at no cost.
Q: Will there be a lottery?
A lottery is required when there are too many families requesting the same program and/or location.
Q: How do I apply for UPK?
The application of interest will be sent directly to families that are currently in our student database. If your child is not in our student data base, please call (585) 637-1857 to receive an application and other related information.
Q: May I request a specific UPK teacher?
Please do not request a specific teacher. Placement decisions are focused on providing the best academic setting and groupings to maximize students’ instructional experiences. The four Ginther UPK classes work together and see one another often throughout the week and school year; for this reason, instructional criteria overrides placing groups of friends together since they will see one another often. UPK teachers incorporate ice breakers and activities for building classroom friendships starting the first day of school.
Q: If my child does not attend kindergarten the following year, may they attend UPK again?
No, UPK is a one-year program for children who will be four by December 1.
If you have other questions regarding the UPK program, please contact Mr. Randall Yu, Ginther Principal, at 585-637-1830 or email Randall.Yu@bcs1.org.
