Brockport CSD once again participated in the annual Walk to School Day, which is held the first Wednesday of October. This event, organized by Brockport’s Walk to School committee, promotes the benefits of a healthy lifestyle while encouraging safe walking and community engagement. Thousands of schools around the world participate in the event each year.

Over 640 Brockport students and their families walked, biked and scootered to school this year – with more students participating at the middle school and the high school than in any previous year. Barclay once again won the coveted Walk to School Day Trophy, with the highest number of walkers participating. 39% of Barclay students walked to school! Each year the grade level with the highest percent participation from Oliver Middle School gets their class level engraved on the Walk to School Day plaque. Congratulations to our sixth grade class, who had 18% of students participate this year.

Families who lived too far away to walk had the opportunity to park and walk from Bill Gray’s or Our Village Optician. Tents containing free apples were set up, along with selfie stations provided by the PTSA. Student athletes from The College at Brockport’s women’s basketball and men’s baseball teams accompanied students on their walk, and cheerleaders from Brockport High School supported families as they made their way to school.

A special thank you to the Brockport Police Department, Brockport Security, Brockport Kiwanis Club, SUNY Brockport, Sweden Town Supervisor Kevin Johnson and numerous community members for helping made the day safe and enjoyable for our students and families. Thanks to Kalir and Robb Farms for the generous donation of apples.
