Child Safety Matters Lessons

In 2019, New York State approved Erin's Law.

What is the purpose of Erin's Law?

Erin's Law requires that all public schools in each state implement a prevention-oriented child sexual abuse program which teaches: Students in grades preK – 12th grade, age-appropriate techniques to recognize child sexual abuse and tell a trusted adult. School personnel all about child sexual abuse.

Brockport School District partnered with the Bivona Child Advocacy Center for training and implementation of a program called Child Safety Matters.  This program was created by teh Monique Burr Foundation and is broken down by grade level so that the lessons stay developmentally appropriate.

At the Ginther School the lesson focuses on knowing the 5 safety rules, how to avoid strangers, and talking to a safe adult if a child ever things something might not be safe.  Your child will come home with a bookmark and an informational sheet when this lesson is conducted.
